but it seemed as if he could not keep them open. He would respond to
questions but just barely. He began to respond a little bit more when
Susan stopped by to visit. I took some of his rehab clothes down to
the car. When I came back Ray Simmons was visiting. Seeing Ray seemed
to awaken something in him and before long he was engaging in fairly
lucid conversations. His old sense of humor even woke up for a bit.
Then, he began to drift back into semi lucid talk as he tired. A
couple of times he almost pulled himself upright in the bed saying,
"I've got to get out of this place. ". It was a remarkable thing to
see. All of this tired him out and we left him sleeping peacefully.
