Dad started the day with a good breakfast. He ate almost all of what was served. Most of his food is now pureed to save him from having to chew it. He has not been taking in enough calories by mouth and has been receiving TPN, nutrients through IV. He was really disoriented but knew us and when the doctor asked him if he knew where he was he did not get it right. He still had his sense of humor though because when the doctor told him he was in Tuomey he said, "Damn. Flunked the first question."
His doctor plans on moving him to a rehab/nursing facility next week. It will probably be to NCH in Sumter with the goal of getting to Covenant Place in mind. He is still remarkably strong in his arms and tries to pul himself upright almost succeeding.
Last night, Christmas Eve, he was really disoriented and agitated. We left with our spirits pretty low. We were tired. Dad was tired. It was time to go home but we had a hard time getting mom to leave him. She keeps thinking she can do something to calm him down when he is agitated but it only makes him worse. The best thing in the evening is to just leave and let the nurses take care of him but it is extremely difficult for her to do.
